ADDICTION

What is an addiction to Drugs or Alcohol?

It is a “state of dependence on a potentially harmful drug due to malfunctioning of the brain”. It is a disease with very definite symptoms. The aspects that characterize it the most are the following:

Loss of control

Denial

Obsession and compulsion

Continued use in spite of the negative consequences

Tolerance

The abuse of drugs or alcohol, even at a state where it is not yet an addiction, can nonetheless produce significantly negative consequences

The abuse of drugs is the excessive use of legal or illegal substances that alter the normal functioning of the brain. About 90% of individuals that use alcohol or other drugs, without being addicted, have, in the some way, an adverse impact on society, their families, and their own lives. The consumption of alcohol or other drugs sickens the body, the mind, and the spirit of those that consume them.
